Ethiopia continues to advance on the path of a major political, economic, and social transformation. In the age of knowledge societies, it also needs to modernize and develop its national higher education system. In order for this process to be effective, it must build on the country’s traditions, and address specific needs and local defining characteristics. At the same time, the modernization and development process can be supported by making use of positive experiences from other countries, and also by avoiding some of the mistakes that have been made elsewhere during similar transition periods.

Together with other key areas - such as college autonomy - quality of higher education is one of the most important and pressing issues for the development of a national higher education system. The quality of higher education activities and outcomes will have a significant impact on the Ethiopia economy and on other sectors, such as public health, public administration, or democratic citizenship. The quality of college graduates, and of the work of college as a whole, will also influence Ethiopia’s capacity for strengthening its regional cooperation within Fasil College, and international cooperation more generally. For these reasons, quality of higher education is a priority area for both higher education institutions and the policy makers.

education is a priority area for both higher education institutions and the policy makers. The aim of the college quality assurance policy is to enhance the effectiveness of its core activities of learning-teaching, research, training and community outreaches. The policy addresses all areas of the college activities focusing on their contribution to and in alignment with the college’s strategic goals. Cognizant of these facts, the office of quality assurance is established as one of the corporate office under the college and given a mandate of ensuring quality teaching learning, research, training and service delivery through a regular review and improvement process. The quality assurance is a continuous process. It is, therefore, hoped that lessons could be learnt during the implementation of the laid down vision, mission and goals of the college.
